Brief Annotation: Junior is a 14 year old on a Spokane Indian reservation. With encouragement from a teacher, he chooses to leave the poor reservation school to attend a wealthier white school outside the reservation. His friends on the reservation see him as a traitor, and the kids at the new school make racist remarks. He processes his experiences through the often sad cartoons he draws. The book details Junior's difficulties with fitting in to his new school and his old position on the reservation now that he straddles the two worlds.

Genre: Contemporary realistic fiction
Grade Level: 7-12. This book deals with alcoholism, masturbation, racism and multiple deaths. While it approaches these topics with humor and intelligence, some of these topics may be difficult to discuss wtih younger readers.
Readers who will like this: Older readers, adolescents, readers interested in real life issues of racism and difference, readers who enjoy a combination of humor and sadness, readers who draw cartoons.
