Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

Martin, Jr., B. (1967). Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? New York, NY: Henry Holt and Company, LLC.

Brief Annotation: This book is a great beginners book for conceptual learning. It introduces colors and different animals in a fun poem. The teacher is asking the children what they see, and at the end the teacher sees the different students looking at her. It ends with going through all of the different animals and colors that were viewed throughout the book.

Genre: Concept Picturebook

Grade Level: Pre-K- Grade 1

Readers who will like this: I know for a fact that preschoolers love this book. I have been able to read it a number of times with 3-4 year old and they just love it. The rhyme is catchy and the pictures are fun to look at. This book is very conceptual, and is a great starting tool to introduce words and colors in a great way. It's a very interactive book that will grab any readers attention.

Response/Rating(1-4): 4, This book is a classic! I think it is a beautifully illustrated and clear book that helps introduce colors and animals in a fun way. It's short and to the point, but does give some time to just look at everything at the end.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: “What are some of your favorite colors?” “ Do animals usually have a specific color?”
