The Jamie and Angus Stories

Fine, A. (2002). The Jamie and Angus Stories. Cambridge, MA: Library of Congress Cataloging.

Brief Annotation: Jamie sees Angus in a store shop and instantly falls in love with him. Angus is a toy cow and Angus takes him everywhere. The story leads us through multiple chapters of their adventures as Jamie grows up. Jamie teaches him how to jump, they attend weddings, search for strawberries and have wonderful days together. They are truly best friends.

Genre: Contemporary Realistic Fiction

Grade Level: Grades 3-6

Readers who will like this: This book is a great choice for beginning chapter-book readers and for students who love to hear fun stories. It also would be a great book for teachers to read during a read aloud time. A parent could also read a chapter a night to their child, all of the stories are fun filled and sweet.

Response/Rating (1-4): 3, Jamie and Angus are such sweet characters and I really enjoyed their adventures. It was not the most captivating read though (so that's why I didn't give it a 4) but I think at a younger age I may have enjoyed it even more. It's a well written book and the illustrations are really nice as well.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: “Have you ever saved up for a toy that you really wanted?”
