DePaola, T. (1985) Tomie DePaola’s Mother Goose. New York, NY: Simon and Schuster.

Brief Annotation: This adaptation includes all of the classic Mother Goose nursery rhymes we have all grown up with. But, this version features DePaola’s own illustrations in his unique and well loved style. The best parts are the borders that run around the insets and pages.

Genre: Concept book

Grade Level:Pre-K-1
Readers who will like this: Readers who like nursery rhymes and familiar sayings. Readers who enjoy DePaola’s artwork.

Response/Rating (1-4): *** I am not a big fan of the nursery rhymes, but I did enjoy looking at the drawings in this book. It is a very complete compilation and would be nice to have in a classroom for children to flip through and read a few poems at a time.

One question you would ask before a read aloud:
Who is Mother Goose? What is she famous for?
