Response/Rating (1-4): **** Zusak has created an intriguing novel on many levels – Death as a narrator, a thief as a protagonist, Nazi Germany depicted through the eyes of a young girl. His characters are complex and come alive through the text. This was a book I did not want to put down – I read it on my lunch breaks or while I was cooking.
