The Hello, Goodbye Window

Juster, N. (2006). The Hello, Goodbye Window. Illus. Chris Raschka. New York, NY: Hyperion Books.

Brief Annotation: The Hello, Goodbye Window tells the simple story of a young girl who visits her grandparents, Nanna and Poppy, at their house. Her imagination runs wild, and she encounters lions and dinosaurs as she plays with her grandparents. All this is experienced mostly through the window that looks onto her grandparent's front yard, the "hello, goodbye" window.

Genre: Picturebooks, fiction.

Grade Level: Pre-K through 3.

Readers who will like this: Students just learning to read. Readers who are younger and imaginative.

Response/Rating (1-4): ****. I loved the simplicity of this book. It was very easy to get into and I think it would be a great book for beginning readers because they will be able to relate really easily to the main character and the writing style.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: Does anyone visit their family at a different house? What things do you like to do there?
