Walsh, Ellen Stoll (1989). Mouse Paint. Illus. E. Walsh. Orlando, Florida: Harcourt Brace & Company.
Brief Annotation: Three white mice evade the cat by standing on white paper, until they find some red, blue and yellow paint and decide to paint themselves. They end up spilling some paint on the paper, and mix colors to find the 3 secondary colors. They then use those colors to paint the paper.
Genre: Picture concept book
Grade Level: Pre-K to 1st grade
Readers who will like this: Early or non-readers learning their colors. Readers who like animals.
Response/Rating (1-4): 4. The illustrations are engaging, and the book has some repetition so the children can really learn how to create secondary colors.
One question you would ask before a read aloud: What would happen if you were covered in red paint and you stepped into a puddle of yellow paint?
