Bibliographic Information (APA): Ernst, B. (2004). The Turn-Around, Upside-Down Alphabet Book. New York, New York: Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers.
Brief Annotation: This book portrays each letter of the alphabet itself, and then as you turn the book upside down and all around if becomes many different things. For example the letter C becomes an angels halo when you turn it on its side, and then a macaroni noodle when it’s upside down, and a hoop earring when it’s on its other side. The book goes through each letter of the alphabet with examples such as these.
Genre: Alphabet Book
Grade Level: Pre-K-1
Readers who will like this: Readers who like to use their imaginations and want to need a more entertaining way to learn the alphabet.
Response/Rating (1-4): This book had a very fun and interesting take on the alphabet. Instead of listing things that start with the letter, like most alphabet books I have read do, it took it a step further to stretch the imagination into thinking of the letters as all sorts of different objects.
One question you would ask before a read aloud: What sort of things do you see when you look at the alphabet? Do you see just letters? Do you see objects?
