Brief Annotation: Fondo dreams of flying away to a better place. His life is sad and lonely, until he meets Stephanie and begins to help her take care of the geese that live on Lake Merritt. Stephanie becomes his closest friend and loves him just for who he is; she sees the extraordinary person inside. As the orphanage attempts to send him away, Fondo decides to fly south with the geese for winter and his dearest friend keeps his secret.
