Bibliographic Information (APA): Bang, M. (1998). When Sophie Gets Angry- Really, Really Angry…. New York City, New York: Scholastic.

Brief Annotation: This book looks describes a child who gets very angry when her sister takes the toy she was playing with and her mom tells her it’s time for her sister to have a turn. She screams, she runs, she becomes sad and cries. The book describes how she eventually reaches a calming place in a tree on the beach and is able to calm herself down. She is then able to go back home and be with the family that loves her.

Genre: Emotions
Grade Level:Pre-K-5

Readers who will like this: Any young readers who are struggling with what to do with their emotions.

Response/Rating (1-4): I enjoyed this book very much. I think that the illustrators use of colors to help display Sophie’s emotions were used very well. I currently have a student that is having a hard time dealing with emotions and I think this is a great book to help him realize it’s okay to be angry.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: How does it make you feel to be angry and what do you do when you get angry?
