Cronin, D. (2001) Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type. Illus. Betsy Lewin. New York, NY: Simon and Schuester

Brief Annotation: This book is about a barn full of cows who go on strike when they decide their barn is too cold. They steal the farmer’s typewriter and write a note demanding electric blankets if he would like to continue receiving milk from them. The farmer of course finds the whole idea ridiculous and refuses. Soon even more animals get involved.
Genre: Animal fantasy
Grade level: PreK - 3
Readers who will like this: Readers who like animals and animal stories. Readers who like humorous stories.
Response/Rating: 4 This book was so fun! I loved the story line and concept of cows unionizing. I was also impressed by the vocabulary used in the book, words like ultimatum and neutral. I think this book would be entertaining and engaging to a number of different audiences—older children who could really appreciate the humor of the story as well as younger children who would have fun chiming in on the “click, clack moo” part on every page.
