Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!

Willems, M. (2003). Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! Illus. Mo Willems. New York, New York: Hyperion Books for Children.

Brief Annotation: The pigeon wants only one thing: to drive the bus. However, the bus driver left the bus in the hands of the audience and they must not let the pigeon drive the bus, no matter what the pigeon says.

Genre: Picture Book

Grade Level: Pre-K-2

Readers who will like this: Young readers and adults, who enjoy humorous books. Children will like this book because Willems allows them to be part of it; the kids will think they have a say in what the pigeon does or doesn’t do.

Response/Rating (1-4):**** This is a wonderful book that engages children and makes them laugh. The pigeon series is a light hearted, fun series that brings children to smiles. They love being part of the book/story and enjoy saying, “No!” to the pigeon.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: Would you let a pigeon drive the bus?
