and Tango makes three

Richardson, J. & Parnell, P. (2005). And Tango makes three. New York, NY: Simon & Schuster, Inc.

Brief Annotation: The story of how Tango became part of a family, and how Roy and Shilo had their dreams come true is an uplifting, joyful, and true annotation about love and family. Like all penguins Roy and Shilo mated for life. The two penguins struggled to have a baby not understanding that they were different. One day they were blessed with a forgotten egg. This story shows its readers that the true definition of a family is love and nurturing.

Genre: Realistic Animal Fiction/Picture book

Grade Level: 4-8

Readers who will like this: Anyone who enjoys stories about animals and family would enjoy this book.

Response/Rating (1-4): 4 Stars! I loved going through the journey of birth with Roy and Shilo. It was heartbreaking to see the two of them sitting on rocks because they simply didn’t understand, but one Tango was there they know just what to do. It is a beautiful story about life, love and family.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: Have you ever seen a baby animal at the zoo?
