Seuss, Theodor. (1984). The butter battle book. Illus. Theodor Seuss. New York, New York: Random House.
Tension between the Yooks and the Zooks has been building for quite some time. The Yooks have been raised to eat their bread with the butter side-up, and the Zooks are the enemy because, heaven forbid, they eat their bread with the butter side-down. This conflict evolves in the story as the Yooks and the Zooks try to build bigger and harsher weapons to ruin the other. Weapons like a "Tough-Tufted Prickly Snick-Berry Switch" or a "Triple-Sling Jigger." Older readers will be able to pick up on the satirical humor, while children, will enjoy the imagination that Seuss became so reputable for.
