Some Dog!
Casanova, M. (2007). Some Dog! Illustrated by Ard Hoyt. Canada: Douglas & McIntyre Ltd.
Brief Annotation: George, the basset hound, had a quiet and peaceful life until a stray came along. Zippity had such energy, that finally one day during a rainstorm, the woman sent him outside. The after realizing she had made a mistake, the man and woman, begged George to use his keen sense of smell to find Zippity. George ended up rescuing Zippity, and returning him home. From then on, the two dogs were the best of friends and did not mind sharing anything at all.
Genre: Contemporary Realistic Fiction
Grade Level: Pre-K to Grade 3
Readers who will like this: Children who enjoy stories with dogs will like this book.
Response/Rating (1-4): I would rate this book a 3. It has a good storyline about any older pet or even sibling, and the sort of rivalry that ensues between them.
One question you would ask before a read aloud: How would/did you feel if your parents brought home another child? Do you think pets feel the same way?
